On a turbocharged Audi, the charge pipe carries pressurized air from the intercooler to the throttle body, and the factory one is often plastic, which is exactly why they’re prone to cracking under pressure. 

An upgraded charge pipe in aluminum or reinforced alloy takes the pressure without flexing or splitting, holds a more secure connection and has smooth mandrel bends making the air path easier to flow through.
